THE GLENMORE BRAVES ENJOYED a truly memorable day on Sunday when they trounced St John's II by 108 runs. Captain of the Braves, Manav Attri, led the charge with a run-a-ball century opening the innings. A heavy outfield meant Manav probably had to run more than he would have liked, but the classy right hander played a wonderful captain's knock to finish on 103 from 106 deliveries. He found two willing partners at the top of the order in Anjan Singh and Aniket Desai. Anjan helped put on 136 for the first wicket, making a superb 63 which included three sixes. Aniket has been in fine form this season and also made it past fifty, ending up with 58 from just 41 balls. He and Manav put on 100 for the second wicket, meaning the Braves ended up with 264-4 from their 35 overs.
Venky Taluri has proved to be a fine addition to the club this season and he was at his metronomic best with the ball. Venky picked up the first wicket on the innings and finished with the fine figures of 1-14 from 6 overs. New ball partner Navi Parmar then claimed the wicket of Rochak Gupta for a duck, and from there St John's were never in the chase. All the Glenmore bowlers had impressive spells and the wickets were shared around evenly. Tejas Chitre is proving to be Mr Dependable this season and he ended with 2 for 24 from his 7 overs.
An excellent win for the Braves. Here's hoping they can continue that form into this weekend when they have a tough game against Zalmi Lions at Inland Small. Good luck to Manav and his team
IN THE WEEKNIGHT LEAGUE the Blues and Royals both suffered frustrating defeats in games they'd likely want to replay. The Blues had one of those days when the catches wouldn't stick. 5 drops cost them dearly as Shaheen Gladiators managed to get up to 144 when a much lower total seemed inevitable. Former skipper Reece Trevillion was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-14 from 3.3 overs. Reece then got the run chase off to a typically aggressive start, clubbing 18 from 11 balls before being cleaned up by ex-Glenmore member Ammar Maqsud. Ammar wasn't in the mood to go easy against his old club and he proceeded to knock over all of the top 3 to leave the Blues in trouble at 20-3. Jason Funnell finally managed to get his first runs of the season, and Nathan Kerrin continued his fantastic run of form with another unbeaten 30, but unfortunately there were few other highlights from the Blues batting. A rapid, entertaining 30 (31 balls) for Kyle Salzmann batting at 11 wasn't enough to make a difference as the Blues fell 29 runs short.
FOR THE ROYALS their frustration stemmed from a poor umpiring display which impacted them badly. Some questionable LBWs and no-ball calls did them no favours against JCC. As they had against the Taverners the previous week, JCC got off to a flyer, again going at 10 an over during the power play. Cam whalen (2-23) and David Hazell (2-18) helped slow the scoring somewhat but JCC still managed to rack up a strong total of 159.
In reply the Royals never got themselves going. Usama Saeed continued his lean streak at the top of the order, while poor Cam picked up his third duck in a row. Only Wasim Naqshbandi (19), David (20) and Raman Dhillon (13) made any contributions of note as the Royals were bowled out for 91.
OUR SQUAD HAS BEEN SELECTED for the 2023 Smash & Grab T20 tournament in August. It is great to see players selected from all 5 of our Glenmore teams, making it a true club effort. From the Braves we have Anjan Singh (captain), Manav Attri, Rahul Singh, Venky Taluri and Vaibhav Rai. From the Glenmore Knights we've got Ameer Hamza, Saad Khan, Divyesh Khule, Ahsan Javaid and Usama Saeed (also of the Glenmore Royals). And from weeknight we've got Kyle Salzman (Glenmore Blues) and David Hazell (Glenmore Royals). Shaun Rheeder (Taverners) is our 14th man and will be our first reserve in case we need to fill a spot.
The tournament will take place on Aug 5th, 6th and 7th. Stick the dates in your diary and try to get along to support our boys. Times of fixtures will be shared once we have them.
