Match report
First game of the season for the new look Royals team and I don't recall a colder start...one should not be wearing a woolly hat and gloves playing cricket!
Having lost (forfeited) the toss, we were put into the field, and tried to give most people a chance to bowl.
As a team still learning who can do what and very pleased with the spirit and support everyone provided.
Rajeev had a good game behind the stumps, with 2 catches and 1, slightly fortunate, unconventional, stumping. Sheshi took a very nonchalant one handed catch in the deep and generally the fielding was pretty good especially the way the ball was jumping around over the ground.
Rashpal and Harjot put in a very impressive spin bowling display, with Adarsha, JR and Sheshi adding more pace.
We gave away too many extras (wides) as the bowlers worked off the rust from the off-season, which lead to a chase of 192 which was always going to be tough.
With Bassam and Justin opening, it was good, safe start, with Bassam caught trying to speed up the scoring, Sheshi came to the crease and scored a very composed, quick 31...although I still think there was a 6 in there that was called a 4.
I'd say we only faced 19 overs, as one of their bowlers was chucking and we really should have had many more no-balls, which would have helped, but I don't think was significant.
Steven was unfortunately caught, just not quite getting over the fielders, bringing Adarsha in for his first Royals game and he did not hang about, hitting a big 6 and many 4's only to be well caught on 27 looking for another 6. Justin was getting his eye in and hitting a few 4's and again, caught going for a big hit as we tried to keep up the run rate. Harjot and JR were in the middle, doing well, however the run rate was ramping up, and try as they did to keep things moved, Harjot was on 27 when run-out going for a 2nd run and JR victim of another catch pretty much put an end to a valiant team effort.
Rashpal and Manoj saw out the last couple of overs, but with the fielders deep, singles were all we could manage, finishing on 140.
