Weekly Club Update - Friday 26th May

26 May 2023

A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who helped with our Spring In2Cricket program over the last two months. Sunday was our final session of another hugely successful kids cricket program. We owe a huge debt of thanks to Raman Dhillon who is our Junior Coordinator, and to Ahsan Javaid, our lead coach. Massive thanks also to Rich Harvey, Matt Chilvers, Theunis van der Linde and Terrell Dhanpaul for helping with the coaching. All these guys have sacrificed their Sunday mornings to provide the kids a great time playing cricket. Fantastic job one and all.

IT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT VICTORIES for our Glenmore teams since our last update. The Knights got the victory train started with a comprehensive win over Runriders Beta last Saturday. A shaky start with the bat (37-3 after 10 overs) was quickly rectified thanks to a valuable partnership between the in-form batters, Adil Amin and Saad Khan (29). Adil made an excellent 70, including his usual flurry of fours and sixes. The lower order all contributed to take the score up to a respectable 197 all out. Ameer Hamza led the bowling unit with an excellent display with the new ball. The captain picked up 4 wickets for just 14 runs from his 7 overs. His new ball partner Faisal Mehmood also bowled beautifully to take 3 wickets in his 7 overs. A couple of scalps for Toshdeep Mann helped secure a comfortable 61 run win.

 Adil Amin, MVP.

THE TAVERNERS MANAGED A NARROW WIN in a rain affected game at Inland on Monday evening. A mid-afternoon downpour had put the game in jeopardy but thankfully the clouds parted for the majority of the game. But, another soaking in the dying moments took the teams off the field for 25 minutes, and when they returned Shaheen Warriors needed 24 from 9 balls. A no-ball 6 from the first ball didn't help matters but Shaun Rheeder managed to pick up a wicket and keep the runs down just enough to close out the game and ensure a 3 run (D/L) win.

The Tavs had got off to a poor start with the bat but a classy knock from former skipper Terry McGrath (33* from 30) laid the foundations for a competitive total of 138. Dan Paul was at his aggressive best with a powerful 32* from 26, while Manish Angl showed his quality by smartly managing to last few overs and making an unbeaten 28.

All the bowlers performed well and kept the Shaheen scoring in check. The experienced campaigners Chris Williams and Terrell Dhanpaul were the pick of the bowlers and deserved more successes. Special mention to Dan Paul for a magnificent direct hit run out from cover point and a truly exceptional celebration!

 Terry McGrath, MVP

THE THIRD WIN OF THE WEEK came on Wednesday evening at Riley Park when the Glenmore Braves put St John's II away by 5 wickets. The Braves got off to the perfect start by reducing St John's to 4-3 after just 9 balls of the innings. Wickets continued to fall in quick time with Navi Parmar (2-13) and Tejas Chitre (3-15) the most successful of the bowlers.

Navi also chipped in a valuable 15 not out at the end of the run chase. There had been a few stumbles early on with both openers dismissed for ducks, but Aniket Desai calmed any nerves with a cool, calm 39 not out. Two wins out of two for the Braves in the T20 format and looking strong.

 Navi Parmar, MVP

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OUR TEAMS in the coming week. The actions starts tonight with the Royals and the Blues playing at Inland and Riley respectively.

Next Friday we have a Glenmore vs Glenmore fixture at Riley Park when the Royals take on the Taverners. This will be a fun, social occasion so why not get along to support the teams. The BBQ will be fired up for players and supporters alike.
