IT IS A HUGE WEEKEND for our 2nd XI, who will be competing for glory in the Division 3 T20 play-offs. The 2nds have had an incredible season in both the T20 and 35 over formats. They currently sit atop the 35 over league table, and they finished the T20 league season in 1st place also. However, they will have to be at their very best to overcome some strong opposition, primarily Crescent Stars and Blackcaps, who both finished on the same points as us.
Tomorrow sees the 2nds face off against Crescent Stars in the 1st vs 2nd place game. The winner will go through to the final on Sunday afternoon (Inland Large, 1pm). The loser will play an eliminator game tomorrow (5pm at Inland) for a place in the final. We wish Ameer and his team all the very best of luck. Everyone at the club are behind you and wishing you well. If you are around to go cheer on the boys tomorrow morning, I'm sure they would appreciate the support.
THE 2NDS ARE IN FINE form going into the weekend following a truly emphatic performance last Saturday. A 9 wicket victory with 8.2 overs still remaining tells it's own story. Usama Saeed continued his golden form with an incredible knock of 63 from just 30 balls to earn him the Man of the Match award. His opening partner Ahsan Javaid was equally impressive with an unbeaten 61 from 40 deliveries. Together they put on 129 for the first wicket to ensure an early finish.
The Glenmore bowlers all performed well with the mystery legspin of Rinat Haque causing the most problems for Runriders. Our talented leggie helped himself to 3 wickets for just 10 runs. Kyle Salzmann, making a rare outing in the blue kit, took 2 for 37, while Ameer, Ahsan, Ravi Sunkaranam and Saad Kahn took one wicket apiece.
ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON WE WERE proud to take part in the Sport Calgary 'All Sport One Day' event at Glenmore Athletic Park. We have been participating in ASOD for many years now and it is always a very fun day. We had almost 40 kids, aged between 5 and 16, come along to give cricket a try for the very first time. They got to learn the basic batting and bowling skills, and then put those into action with a game at the end. All the kids had a terrific time and went home very happy. A massive thank you to Quinton North, Steve Schunker, Debo Sen and Alex Storey for volunteering their time and effort to run the sessions. They did a brilliant job.
We will be taking part in ASOD again in 2023, so please consider getting involved and helping out.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING to do this evening why not head down to Riley Park. We are playing an inter-club friendly game with a mix of the weeknight teams. Should be a very relaxed, fun evening in the sunshine (fingers crossed). We also played a friendly down there on Tuesday evening which was a great success. Thanks to everyone who has signed up to play our last weeknight game of the Summer.
