ON THE FIELD THE 2ND XI have continued their incredible form with two more fantastic victories. For much of the season the 2nd XI have enjoyed comfortable wins but last Saturday they had to fight for their lives to win an absolute thriller against New West Strikers. The game looked gone with 2 overs remaining and New West needing only 8 runs to win with 3 wickets in hand. But, there have been many dramatic twists late on in games at Riley down the years, and this was another. Gaurav Maniyar and Shadman Sakib were entrusted to bowl the last few overs and they both managed to bag themselves a wicket. New West needed 2 off the last 2 balls but it was the boys in blue who kept their heads to engineer a match winning run out to steal the game!
This incredible finale was well deserved following a solid all round display from Glenmore. All the bowlers performed well with Ameer Hamza (3 for 33) and Daniel Paul (2 for 17) proving the most successful. Earlier in the day there were a number of useful contributions with the bat as Daniel (14), Sazid Khan (26), Saad Khan (33), Ameer (15), Shadman (12) and Gaurav (13) all helped take the total to a defendable 158-9 from 35 overs.

IF SATURDAY'S WIN WAS A thriller then the 2nds victory on Thursday evening was more like a blockbuster. Back on the familiar territory of Inland Small they smashed a huge total of 230-3 from 20 overs. Ahsan Javaid (27) and Usama Saeed (61) got things off to a rapid start, putting on 61 in 7 overs. But that partnership was simply an amuse-bouche before the main course was served in the form of Saad Khan and Adil Amin. These two powerful batters destroyed the Cavaliers bowling attacking, smacking them for 97 runs in just 5.3 overs! Adil made 28 from 14 balls, but it was Saad who was the most explosive. He cleared the rope 10 times in just 29 balls as he ended on 91 not out...a strike rate of 313!
Cavaliers tried to throw the bat from ball one but they lost wickets at regular intervals to ensure it was a comfortable win for Ameer's team. Muhammad Hayat was the main man with the ball, bowling a fantastic spell of 3-0-23-4. He was given strong support from Ahsan (3 for 40) as the 2nds consolidated their position at the top of Division 3.

LAST FRIDAY ALL THREE WEEKNIGHT teams played but sadly none could manage a win. Taverners lost to their old rivals Panthers having made a sub-par 129 and then dropping five crucial chances in the field. Royals performed well with the ball against Rockies to keep them to 155 but couldn't quite click with the bat and ended up 31 runs short. The Blues were looking in a strong position against Gujarat Lions but a strong finish took their target up to 143. Gujarat then bowled tidily to restrict the Blues' to just 99 from their 20 overs.
A rare hot, sunny evening greeted the Taverners on Monday at Riley. While the SAIT players eagerly practiced in the nets the Tavs warmed up in usual fashion with a pre-beer. It proved to be wicket juice for Chris 'Mr Miyagi' Williams as he took a wicket with the first ball of the match. This sparked a procession of wickets as SAITs top order fell apart in the face of some excellent bowling (Reece Matthews immaculate with figures of 4-1-9-2) and fielding (BJ Wolstenholme producing a superb run out). At 47-6 from 11 overs, it appeared as though the end may be nigh, but SAIT's lower middle order rallied extremely well to completely change the game. Choksi (28*) and Hitul (33*) put on 52 in quick time to take the total past three figures. Rikki Panther (3 for 30) chipped in with a couple of late wickets but SAIT had made it to 111 and the Tavs had a game on their hands.
SAIT's impressive display continued with the ball, restricting the scoring of BJ and Rikki to something slower than a crawl. BJ finally fell after an agonizing stay in the middle (4 off 16 balls), and when Rikki succumbed (7 from 19) the score was a paltry 26-2 from 6.4 overs. Matt Chilvers (15) and Terry McGrath (21) got things moving in the right direction with a priceless partnership of 38 in just 4 overs. With the required run rate hovering around 6 it was left to skipper (Bijju Mohankumar) and vice-captain (Alex Storey) to see the game home relatively calmly. Bijju smoked a flat 6 over square leg to take control of the run chase, and Storey managed to hit the winning boundary over mid-off's head with three balls remaining. The Tavs had made hard work of things but the win keeps them in fourth spot in the table.
Terry McGrath and Reece Matthews share the Man of the Match award.
