5th Annual Golf Day, Another Big Success

28 Jul 2016

For one day this Summer the cricketers of Glenmore CC put away their bats and pulled out their golf clubs for the 5th Annual GCC Golf Day. This year the event was held at McKenzie Meadows Golf Club...the home course of one Andrew Wakefield. Following a month of consistent rain we were fortunate to enjoy a day of clear blue skies and a sizzling sun.

Five groups took to the course to compete, with some top quality golfers and some complete novices in the field. Before the first group went out we had the usual putting competition. Wakefield had set up a long, undulating putt for everyone to try. A few ended up in the rough, and only the very best managed to get the ball anywhere near close. In the end Ken Beaumont and Mr Wakefield contested a play-off, with Sprogg winning the head-to-head duel.

The winning team in the real event was once again led by Mr Wayne Lingard. We believe this is the third year in a row that Wayne has been on the winning team, so surely the Taverners Fines Committee needs to look into this. This year Wayne had his fellow Taverner, Terry McGrath in his team, as well as Chris Huston and Peter Markey. This foursome must have played reasonably well as they shot an astounding -17!

The team of Jon Bray, Andrew Wakefield, Chris Williams and Glenn MacDinald came in second place. Ken Beaumont led his team (Glenn Kelley, Ian Murphy and Gavin Bilton) to third spot. The teams at the wrong end of things were full of non-golfers. Jenko's foursome (Kalie, Dustin and Chris) ended up on level par, while the team of Storey, Honywood, Ghotra and Deep managed to pick up a few birdies to finish on -8.

Ryan Jenkinson won the Straightest Drive competiton, while Mr Miyagi (Chris Williams) picked up the Furthest From The Pin award.

We thank everybody who came out to play and donated money. Thanks to everyone's generosity we raised $450 for the club, which is a fantastic effort.

Thanks also to Andrew for his help in organising the event. But most of all, a massive thank to Jonathan Bray and Secret Spirits for providing all the prizes once again.
