Match report THE GLENMORE ROYALS kicked off their season last Friday evening with a thrilling match against New West Bisons. New West racked up a formidable score of 170 from their 20 overs, with three of their top order retiring on 30. Some economical bowling from Sajid Hasan, Theunis van der Linde, Vaibhav Rai and Wasim Naqshbandi managed to keep a lid on the scoring and meant the Royals approached the run chase with some confidence.

Fahad Nayyar, back in action following a nasty finger injury, got proceedings off to a flying start by smacking a quickfire 30*. Bijju Mohankumar, filling in from the Taverners, retired on 22* and Wasim Naqshbandi also retired after a fluent 30*. The Royals were rolling along nicely, and things continued to look good when the middle order of Gurvinder Ahuja (17), Theunis (31*) and Sajid (18) all made excellent contributions to take the game to final over. 12 were needed for a famous victory, but despite Raman Dhillon and Vaibhav's best efforts they fell agonizingly short. But, it was a fantastic collective batting effort from the Royals, and hopefully a sign of things to come for the rest of the season.
