Kanata Panthers III v Glenmore Cricket Club Glenmore Knights on Sun 07 Jun 2015 at 3pm
Glenmore Cricket Club Won by 1 Wicket
Match report
Glenmore 2nd XI won their 3rd match in a row against one of the worst behaved team in the league on a beautiful day. The win was the most satisfying one this summer.
There are oppositions and then there are Kanata Panthers 3rd XI. When talking about the good, the bad and the ugly, Kanata Panthers don’t even feature in the movie.
The highlights beside the WIN itself were many. An excellent century by their captain, extremely loud music, excessive appealing, intimidating the umpires, hurling abuses at the batsman and the umpires, sarcasm after the end of the game, sarcastic clapping after Glenmore’s win, spitting on Glenmore batters and telling them that they were being spit on, no hand shakes, extremely poor sportsman spirit, taunting the Glenmore batsmen of being dishonest, leaving garbage behind, taking additional 30 minutes to finish their quota of overs, non-stop chants without any reason, chants to provoke Glenmore players after the game was over, abusing Glenmore players while driving away in their cars and a number of extremely questionable decisions against Glenmore.
Well, we still came out on top.
Glenmore bowled extremely well for the first 26-27 overs, but lost the plot after that. The opposition shouldn’t have scored any more than 150-160 runs, but some poor bowling and good hitting took them past the 200 run mark. So far the number of extras and dropped catches have been a major concern, but the Glenmore players don’t seem to learn. For next year, I might suggest the name Glenmore Butterfingers instead of Glenmore 2nd XI. ☺
Nadeem, Dave and Wasim bowled extremely well and took 4, 1 and 1 wickets respectively. Although Farid took 3 wickets, he was rather erratic and Ammar started with an extremely economical spell but finished the innings with an disastrous over. Meanwhile Mitch fielding at short cover took a blinder. Dave had already taken a wicket in his 2nd over and bowled a beauty to the new batsman and Mitch dived forward outstretching both hands and caught the ball. Everyone knew it was a clean catch, however the batsman stood his ground and the umpires robbed Glenmore and Mitch of a chance to wrap up Kanata Panthers innings early.
Glenmore started their innings and were 67 for no loss in 7.2 over before Nix (a compulsive shuffler) shuffled and once again got LBW. A good innings none the less. Jay also played extremely well and scored 34 of 45 balls before running himself out. It was a comedy of errors and at one point both batsmen were at the same end. Ammar had hit the ball straight to point and was convinced that there was no single to be taken, however Jay was watching a completely different movie (Catch me if you can) or he probably mistook Ammar (Simon Pegg, from the movie Run Fatboy Run) for Flash. Although in Jay’s defense, Ammar was rather ball watching and totally forgot to yell, Nooooooooooooo…. Or Waitttttttttt… or something that would have indicated that he wasn’t interested in running.
Glenmore were going well until then, but a few questionable decisions after that wicket ensured a tough chase. By this time Kanata Panthers were dangerously close to going over their allotted time and so they did. The umpires were rather generous and only penalised them 18 runs, whereas they should have been penalised at least 30 runs. Some powerful hitting by Mitch and the penalties helped Glenmore triumph Kanata Panthers.
Happy Days!
