Glenmore Cricket Club Glenmore Knights v Crown Titans on Sun 31 May 2015 at 9.30am
Glenmore Cricket Club Won by 44 runs

Match report What is one of the most important things in Cricket? A good start. And therefore the top 3-4 players play a very important role in every cricket team. And that is exactly what Glenmore got today. One cannot expect a better start to their innings.

After Glenmore won toss and decided to bat, Arnie Biswas and Jay Nandula gave them a dream start. A mammoth 148 runs opening stand in meagre 12 overs ensured a big total on the board. When Arnie got out trying to sweep a fast bowler Crown Titan were already on the back foot. Arnie scored a blazing 39 ball 81 with the help of 9 fours and 5 sixes. Although there were plenty of big shots, what made the partnership special was the running between the wickets by Arnie and Jay. They were always in the hunt for singles and doubles and consistently converted singles into doubles and doubles into triples.

After the fall of the first wicket Glenmore seemed keen on maintaining the run rate and just when Wasim and Jay started knitting a partnership together, Jay got run out; but by that time he had already scored 57 of 44 balls with the help of 5 fours and 2 lusty sixes. Dan on his debut for Glenmore 2 was next in, but his stay was rather short. He played a fine flick that went straight to the fielder at fine leg.

After watching Arnie and Jay bat, the next batsman, Andrew Wakefield wanted to murder the Crown bowlers. And so he did, it seemed like he didn’t like the quality of the bowlers and so rather than taking singles or hitting fours he hit 4 mighty sixes and once again got out LBW, playing exactly the same shot as the last few matches. It seems like he is a compulsive cross-batter after getting past 3o. He scored 34 runs of 28 balls.

By the time Andrew got out Glenmore’s score was 236 in 23.2 overs and Glenmore were now aiming for 320+, but the middle and lower order failed to consolidate and Glenmore were bowled out for 279 in 33.1 overs.

Before the start of the second innings Arnie had to leave and due to a scheduling error Glenmore had a 12th man. And so Mitch captained the second half of the game.

Glenmore didn’t start their second innings very well. Farid the hero of the last game sprayed the ball short and wide and deservingly got punished. Crown were going all guns blazing and Glenmore seemed very happy to drop their catches. Finally after dropping 4-5 catches the breakthrough came in the 8th over in the form of a run out. Mitch fielding at point swiftly got to the ball and made a direct hit. Dan (7 overs, 32 runs, 0 wickets), Nadeem (7 overs, 47 runs, 2 wickets), Ammar (7 overs, 41 runs, 2 wickets) and Wasim (4 overs, 35 runs, 2 wickets) kept it tight during the middle overs and struck regularly. Wasim bowled a beauty to get rid of Crown’s opener, who had by then scored 72 of 66 balls. Crown’s number 7 and 8 fought back, but by then the match had already slipped out of their grasp.

It was an excellent team effort and a welcome 2nd win for Glenmore this season.
