Glenmore Cricket Club Glenmore Knights v St Johns III on Sat 23 May 2015 at 9.30am
Glenmore Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report It was the perfect day for cricket and when Glenmore took the field it started as the battle between the two bottom ranked teams. But by the end of the match Glenmore showed what they are capable of and although they haven’t had the most ideal start to the season, they are a force to be reckoned with.

For a while Ammar Maqsud has been boasting about his ability to win a toss and so he was sent to represent the skipper and win the toss. Glenmore had a clear strategy, win toss, bat first and pile a plethora of runs. Unfortunately, Ammar Maqsud had to eat his words as Glenmore lost the toss and St. Johns chose to bat first.

Glenmore decided to open the bowling with their new, but already becoming their leading bowler Farid Iqbal and Jay Nandula. As usual Farid started with a ripper of an over, while Jay’s radar seemed to have malfunctioned. He was hell bent on not letting St. Johns batsmen score of their bats and so he decided to continuously spray the ball down the 6th and the 7th stumps.

This brought in Nadeem, who was playing his first game of the season. He made the ball talk and swung the ball both ways. Farid and Nadeem bowled a tight line and length and St. Johns didn’t know what had hit them. They kept losing wickets on a regular basis. By the 10th over Glenmore bowlers had sent half their team packing.

And just when they seemed to be building a partnership, Ammar Maqsud came in and showed them why we were a better side. St. Johns were bowled out for 94 runs in just 22 overs and Farid (7 overs 2 maidens 28 runs 5 wickets), Nadeem (5 overs 0 maidens 12 runs 3 wickets) and Ammar (4 overs 0 maidens 13 runs 2 wickets) shared the honours.

Glenmore opened their batting with Arnie and Jay, but lost both of them early in their innings. Jay went for a hook in the very first over, whereas after been patient for a while Arnie caved in and tried to hit the ball for a 6 and got caught in the deep. It turned out to be another forgetful day for Mitch batting at number 4. Andrew got out LBW playing across the line after building a 50 run partnership with Wasim. While Wasim stayed not out at 47 of 53 balls, as he ensured Glenmore won without any fuss.
