Match report Kanata Panthers II 133 All Out in 33 Overs, GCC II 103 All Out in 28 Overs
It was a bright sunny afternoon when the players took the field at Forrest Lawn, quite different from the day before when Crown insisted that a full game be played in the downpour of the century, so they could get the win they so desperately required.
The Glenmore boys, having umpired the morning game gained some inside knowledge of the appalling wicket conditions. Armed with this knowledge the astute skipper won the toss and elected to have a bowl at a strong looking Kanata Panthers lineup.
The GCC bowling attack didn’t waste any time in taking the fight to the Kanata Panthers batsmen with Martin clean bowling Jaspreet in his first over. The entire GCC attack kept the pressure building with some very tight bowling and lots of energy in the feild. Only Yasir managing to accumulate anything of note (51), was eventually removed lbw by Hardeep.
With the par score at Forrest Lawn between 250 -270, GCC looked in with a real chance of victory having limited Kanata Panthers to what seemed to be a very small total of 133. Only a handful of Kanata Players managing to make double figures. The pick of the GCC bowlers, as is so often the case, were Sandeep (3-20 off 6 overs), Iqbal (2-19 off 7 overs), and Martin (2-20 off 7 overs).
It looked like foregone conclusion when the GCC openers took to the crease, chasing such a small total on what had been such a high scoring pitch. The victory wasn’t to be however. When Anjan fell early, caught at slip, there started a momentous collapse. Only Adam (39), and Wasim (16), able to formulate any kind of resistance to the Kanata Panthers Bowling. Ammar (9) was looking good to shepherd the innings with Adam until he was unceremoniously run out by his partner.
With Adam and Wasim/Ammar at the crease, the small target seemed very gettable, but when Wasim was bowled, Ammar run out, and Adam fell lbw, GCC II were doomed to snatch yet another defeat from the jaws of victory.
