United Warriors v Glenmore Cricket Club Glenmore Taverners on Fri 10 Aug 2012 at 6pm
Glenmore Cricket Club Lost by 12 runs
Match report
Taverners’ most-depreciated and self-deprecating batting asset carted a dis-believing Warriors rabble for a lifetime-best 31 n.o. last Friday.
MacPherson’s Lament had nothing on Neil Honess whingeing his way into form as Taverners so nearly confounded the Warriors, just failing to chase their large total at Inland Small.
“We might be 54-for-1-off-7-chasing-175, but it’ll soon be for-2, mark my words.”
“Why is the Captain putting me in at 3? How about 8? It’s my season aggregate.”
“I just close my eyes, swing across it (sic.) and wait for the death-rattle.”
“Once I scored 29 or 30- it was the 33rd division of Essex Uni Co-ed House League”
Teaming with the effortless batting of Ferns and his dismissive single-handed FrenchCricket clips, Honest Neil toyed with his fasting foes, forcing a new record for fielders removing their trousers in a 20 over game.
Later, with the August dusk rushing into Moustache Pete’s, there was the refreshing sight of Honess holding forth at the head of Tavs table - a changed man, at least for now.
But you’re sorely needed back as the Old Self, Neil-bhai! With Robbo in the wickets and making 50s, Beaumont busy being bowled by beauties, and just fleeting evening memories of Stick, you’re Tavs' man to carry the Pommie torch.
That’s right, the one with the dead batteries.
- Tony Pasternak, August 2012
