Match report Belief is a key word in cricket, especially when defending small totals. Two types of belief were experienced by Glenmore I on Saturday against Rockies. Firstly almost complete disbelief as the batsman found ways to get themselves out and only extras (51) saw them to a three figure total. Secondly followed a committed effort in the field which gave belief, then hope and finally victory.

Glenmore subsided with only Trevor (11), Shawn (11) and Peter (17) reaching double figures. Every time a recovery was on the cards another wicket fell. The Rockies bowling was tidy with Rizwan (10-2-20-3) the pick.

Early wickets were the key to victory and Mark Duncan set the tone with a stunning spell of consistent swing bowling. Time and again he beat the bat, well support by the vocal and physical efforts of the fielders, as Rockies had no answers. Figures of 10-4-9-5 don't tell the whole story - of the nine runs conceded two were wides and there was also a thick edge for four!

Rockies batting consisted of either blocking or playing extravagant shots, and for a while this was working. Rizwan (37) and Zeeshan (20) threatened to take them home at 90-6 but Jonathan accounted for Rizwan with an arm ball and the door was open for Glenmore. Jake then knocked the door down with two quick wickets on his way to a debut spell of 3-0-16-3 and in what turned out to be the final over Jonathan held his nerve, and Nadeem the catch, to send Glenmore and supporters deliriously (and thirsty) to the China Rose.
