The rain poured down all morning, and well into the afternoon, and it was looking like being another cancellation. But, just a few minutes before the putting competition was due to start, and with Ram struggling with the TV remote, the rain finally stopped. Mitch Gardiner won the putting comp thanks to an excellent effort from himself and a truly awful effort from the majority of the rest. Shortly afterwards, as the first group set off down the first fairway, the sun came out and the rest of the day was perfect!
Jenko's team (Ryan, Ram and Iain Chapman) found it hard going. They ended up 8 over par for the round, and Iain managed to break the old club used for the straightest drive competition. Ryan was also seen teeing off with his pants down having not managed to get his first attempt past the ladies tee! Alex Storey's team (Anil Joshi, Nix Gunawardhena and Suki Ghotra) also had a rough go of things at times. On one hole 6 balls were lost, while on another there was a dreadful three putt...a cardinal sin when playing 'best ball'.
Trevor's foursome, including three DeFreitas' and one Horace Osman, managed to get their team ball around safely and ended up with a perfectly reasonable -5. The team of Australians (Matt Honywood, Dan Brennan and Sam Lidgerwood) also finished with a creditable -5, but somehow contrived to lose their team ball coming down the 18th hole!
Mitch Gardiner made sure his team ball was lost off the 1st tee, but then produced some magical golf to single handedly lead his team to -8 (having ben -7 after 9 holes).
The battle for first place was fought between Jon Bray's team (Jon, Andrew Wakefield, Mark Turner and Jay Nandula) and Ken Beaumont's team (Ken, Wayne Lingard, Gavin and Mike). Both teams played some fantastic stuff and ended up on -11. However, Ken's team finished with three consecutive birdies leaving them finish as champions for a second year in a row!
As always, a huge thank you to everyone who participated. We hope everybody had an enjoyable day and will be back again next Summer. Thanks also to Andrew for organising some excellent prizes, which Ryan and Suki were happy to win. But as always, the biggest thanks must go to Jonathan Bray for once again organising the event and supplying so many wonderful prizes for everyone.
The winning team!
