Glenmore Cricket Club News story

Glenmore's Day of Curling

12 Mar 2014

February 22nd saw the guys and girls of Glenmore take to the ice at the Garrison Curling Club. There was a wealth of inexperience among our ranks and so it was with some trepidation we grabbed our brooms and tip-toed onto the ice. While one group received some tips from the regulars, the second group decided to jump in the deep end. Chris Williams was the unfortunate first man up and within seconds was sliding around, arms flailing and inevitably ended up falling on his arse! This would not be the last slip, spill and plummet to the ice. Maintaining verticality was the principle goal in the early stages, but as time went on some definite improvements were made.

Jon Bray, having soaked up the instructions, proved to be a natural. The Flames-loving Aussie managed to slide his first two stones neatly into the house, and later popped one right onto the button.
Other notable performances came from Tony Pasternak (Glenmore's sporting allrounder) and Lyndsey Knox. Cornish and Lyndsey did most of the point scoring for their respective teams, and had an obvious flair for the sport.
Among the hardest working participants were Lauren and Rory Hope-Johnstone. DHJ's two kiddies were running up and down the sheets, sweeping anything within reach!
In a thrilling finish, Adam Knox managed to find the house twice in the final end to snatch victory from Team Pasternak's grasp.
When all was said and done, it had been a thoroughly enjoyable few hours. All that was left to do was to drag our aching arms (sweeping) and sore bottoms (falling) off to the pub.
A huge thanks to everyone who came along, and special thanks to Rebecca Ellis for organising the event.
