GCC’s brain-trust is frantically reconsidering their C&DCL application for a second weekend team after 26 wickets fell in the 32 overs of match 9 in the winter indoor series Sunday night.
In their 15th of 16 batting overs, Team Robertson set a new wicket-losing record, the Captain himself ensuring the eclipse of the previous standard for incompetence, his sub-continent-style run-calling handing Team Smith two further run-outs on a platter already overflowing with gifts, and leaving the score temporarily at a new nadir of minus 57 for 17.
A last over recovery netted 15-0, rendering Team Robbo’s cause as merely hopeless, and leaving Smudger’s bemused gang to chase minus 40.
For Robbo’s rabble, the batting pair of Ajay & Reinhardt topped-Out with six dismissals, followed closely with five yielded by Sri Lankan pairing Bobby & George, who weren’t exactly darting between the wickets, achieving a treble of run-outs, their telepathic calling not quite doing the trick.
Ajay also pushed to take out Smith’s low-score record, but fell just short with minus 25 off 13 balls.
All Smithy’s bowlers were in the wickets, the steady Nadeem Altaf credited with a record 6, and even Parr having the balls to take one of Captain Robbo’s after nearly losing one.
Aided by negative scoreboard pressure, Jono’s steady batters reached 73-3 from 11 in reply. But Nabeel & Nadeem, after some careful accumulation, and last batting pair Asad & Smith belatedly gave Team Robbo something to tweet home about, losing 6 for minus 45, and so reducing the winning margin to 68 runs.
Jono Bray top-scored for Team Smith with 20 followed by Wasim Naqshbandi’s 16, the latter also taking two good catches in the covers.
The yellow indoor ball, in play for the first time, proved somewhat difficult to control, with 66 extras and a number of into-the-ceiling dismissals recorded. Bijju sent down 18 of the sundries, his extravagant in-swing still collecting 4 scalps for Team Robbo.
