It seems as if there some umbrage taken with the last game report.
Some people complained that it was too long and that their short
attention spans couldn't handle such things as semi-colons, complex
sentence structure, and words with more than three syllables. Therefore,
friends, it is with some sadness and some excitement that I shall try
my hand in a Hemingway-esque game report for our friends, the Graduates
of England's School system.
Sunday was a cold day. It was a
foggy day. There was snow on the ground. Two teams battled on Sunday
afternoon. Team Robertson. Team Smith. Capt Robertson called heads at
the coin flip. The coin read heads. Alex said he would bat. Capt Tony
said he would have chosen to bowl. The match had already begun.
Jenko and Bray batted first. They batted well. They batted with
purpose. They took Asad for 17, and then Nadeem for 10, and then Asad
took a wicket. They gained 25 pts. Then Hubert and Jenna batted next.
Nadeem looked forward to bowling. He gave up runs. Then Reinhardt bowled
and Jenna and Hubert scored. The sieve was opened. Rich bowled next and
despite a run-out, the scores increased. Marcus and Hardeep batted
third. They scored well against Bijju: 3,3,2,0,3,2. Nadeem bowled next
and could only bring down the score by 1. Rich bowled and got a wicket
but the scores kept climbing. Finally, Wasim and Capt Robertson came in.
Wasim Altaf batted unlike himself. He batted composed. He ran composed.
Wasim bowled 4 dots and the score went up. Asad bowled and Rich
finished off the bowling. The score went up. Team Robertson had scored
in the positives. They had scored 89. It would be a tall task for team
Smith.
Wasim and Reinhardt opened. They started well with 7 off
Jenko. Hardeep took the ball next and Team Smith was down to 3
afterwards. There was a runout. Then Hubert bowled and was hit but a
wicket helped his stats. Team Smith had 8 runs after 3 overs. Nadeem and
Ajay batted next. Jenna was the bowler. Nadeem couldn't believe his
luck. He was batting against a female bowler. He would change his mind.
Jenna gave up runs to Ajay but blew one by Nadeem. He was swinging when
the ball was in the keeper's gloves. But Nadeem would score. Wasim
bowled next and convinced Ajay to play a Wasim-like shot into the roof.
Jenko then bowled and got two wickets. Two run outs. One a great throw
by Hubert that left Ajay out of the crease by 5 metres. Hardeep bowled
next to Rich and Bijju. Rich batted well and wanted to run. He knew that
they were behind. Their score was 10 after 7 overs. Hubert bowled the
8th over and kept the score down despite letting runs. Jenna bowled and
got a wicket. The score was 24. Asad and Tony batted last. Wasim bowled
their first over. 2, 0, 0, 2, 2, -10. A clean bowl against Tony. Jenko
then bowled. Run out. Run out. And Team Smith entered the final over
with 7. Hardeep was hit. But Team Smith loved their run outs too much.
3,2,3,RO,2, 2. Their score was 9.
It was a good game. Well umpired. Good defence. Not so good running.
Team Smith 2. Team Robertson 1.
