GCC Club Banquet / Awards Night
26 Nov 2012
Mr Tony Pasternak took charge of proceedings at the Royal India restaurant on sunday November 25th for the annual club banquet. 'Cornish' was MC for the evening and did a great job introducing the various awards.
The event was extremely well attended by club members and their families. Old and new members alike tucked into the fantastic buffet put on by the restaurant. A slideshow showed some of the season's highlights, and awards were handed out to the best performers of 2012.
A list of the award winners is below but special mention should be made for the PC Joshi Award winner and the Neil Wildman Spirit of Cricket award winner. Heather Smith won the Joshi award for her tireless scorekeeping for the Taverners games. Heather comes out in all conditions, usually wrapped up in numerous layers, and scores all the Tavs games. Win or lose, Heather always has a smile on her face and an encouraging word. She is certainly a worthy winner of this award.
The Neil Wildman Spirit of Cricket award was won by Jonathan Bray. Jon has been a member of Glenmore for a number of years and this summer went past 2,000 runs for the club. However, his worth to Glenmore is much more than the runs he's made. Since taking over the captaincy three years ago he has strived to ensure the team plays in the right spirit. His philosophy is to play hard, but to always enjoy the game, to play with a smile on your face and to enjoy being part of the team. Always the first to suggest a post-match beer, Jon has made it a pleasure to play in the Glenmore 50 over side.
Thanks to everyone who came along to the banquet, to Pasha for organizing, to the club executive for all their help, and to Tony for his MCing.
The award winners were;
Taverners Best Bowler - Shahid Qureshi
Taverners Best Batsman - Jonathan Smith and Anil Joshi
T20 Best Bowler - Muhammad Pasha
T20 Best Batsman - Iqbal Sandhu
Best Fielder - Ruwan Thushantha
Glenmore Centurions - Alex Storey and David Sherjan
Glenmore 5 Wicket Haul - Richard Harvey
