Glenmore defeats Glenmore in all-Glenmore fixture

17 Jun 2012

A fun time was had by all at Westwinds on sunday as Glenmore faced Glenmore in an inter-club twenty over game. The T20 squad was divided up to make the quality of the teams as level as possible, and we must have done well seeing as only 8 runs separated the sides.

Alex Storey won the toss for the Club XI and elected to field first. Success came in the first over as Ali Memon produced a brute of a delivery to find the shoulder of Waseem Naqshbandi's bat and the catch was taken by Nasir in the gully. Nasir was in the action again in the second over. Norm Wegerhoff, keen to find some form before embarking on his tour to England, got a beautiful out swinger from Brijesh first ball and  the edge again went to Nasir in the gully. This brought the T20 danger man Iqbal Sandhu to the crease and he was quick to play some shots. However, Iqbal's timing wasn't quite right on sunday and he was eventually caught magnificently by Sandeep at long off, again off Ali Memon. The ball flew ridiculously high and Sandy took a fantastic catch.

Hardeep proved to be the most successful of the batsmen, striking the ball beautiful all around the ground, and making a well deserved 59. There were some fireworks from Asad Gul and Manjinder in the later overs, both of whom struck a number of big, booming sixes. For the Club XI Sandeep picked up 3 wickets, Ali 2, and Brijesh, Robertson and Nasir one apiece.

According to the scorebook the T20 XI made 174 but the scoring was diabolical so who knows what the correct total should have been! The big controversy, only discovered after the game, was that they faced 21 overs!!! A rematch next year will see far greater scrutiny on the scorers!!!

However, the Club XI got off to a flying start thanks to Nasir and Anjan. The pair put on 116 in only 12 overs!!! Nasir was the chief destroyer, smashing a fantastic 83!!! He may well have got closer to his hundred had it not been for his inability to run once he got past fifty. If anyone knows a good shin doctor please have him contact Nasir asap!!! Anjan also batted very well, making an excellent 27 before being bowled by Manjnder.

Wasim Altaf (13) and Sandeep (27no) did their best to get the score up to 175 but fell agonizingly close.

All in all it was a fun game, in which every played their part. Many thanks to everyone who came along and took part, it is much appreciated.

Good luck to the T20 side in their final league game this coming sunday.
