Glenmore I vs Noor - 30/08/10

30 Aug 2010

On what was the worst cricketing day that I can remember (Im still drying my socks and shoes) Glenmore I went down to a very disciplined Noor team.

Losing the toss and sent in to bat Glenmore I made slow going against some very tight bowling from Noor. An unfortunate run out broke the opening partnership with Edmonton import Raheel calling yes but deciding no and watching helplessly as the Noor fielder hit the timber direct.

Bray had worked extremely patiently for 15 from 19 overs but didnt get to the pitch of the left arm orthodox spinner Asin and skied to Mid off. Spin was Glenmore's nemesis as Asin took 4 wickets for 28 runs from his 10 overs. Jaspreet partnered with Indie for a 32 run partnership before he holed out on the boundary for 24. Indie worked extremely hard in the difficult conditions to anchor the Glenmore Innings and got some support from Anjan (18) and Nadeem (19). None of the other Glenmore wickets made double figures but 162 looked a possibly defendable score in the grey and drizzly conditions.

With a straight forward catch put down off the very first ball nothing seemed to go right for Glenmore in the field. Raheel bowled well in his first spell and really restricted the Noor batting but could not break through. Pasha bowled well and picked up the first wicket but should have had two as a simple chance was put down at mid off the with the batsman going on to score a valuable 50.

At one point the batsmen were offered to leave the field with rain falling and conditions grey as they had been throughout the day. DL was calculated and Noor were ahead by a mere 2 runs with 9 wickets in hand, even 1 more wicket down would have seen Glenmore ahead. If at that time Glenmore had been ahead the probability of further play would have been unlikely. With the rain however eventually easing a little the umpires decided that conditions were the same as the Glenmore innings and play was resumed. A slippery ball and another missed opportunity added salt into the already gaping wound. Noor batted on extremely well taking advantage of their let offs almost taking the game all the way before finally with a runner coming onto the field the inevitable mix up ended a very good partnership.

Despite a minor collapse with 4 wickets falling in 2 overs including 2 runouts and 2 lbw's 1 to Waseem and 1 to Alex Storey Noor got home by 5 wickets effectively assuring them a place in Division 1 and relegating Glenmore I to a match up with Glenmore II some time in 2011.
