THINGS DIDN'T GO ACCORDING TO PLAN for the Knights last weekend in the T20 play-offs. After a fantastic season that saw them finish second in the table, they suffered a little from missing some key players. This proved to be pivotal as they locked horns with two strong teams. In the first game they were rocked by a 10 wicket defeat at the hands of Zalmi Lions.

The final game against Runriders Alpha was impacted by the rain, resulting in it being reduced to 14 overs per side. Divyesh Khule once again performed admirably with the ball, taking 2-13 from 4 overs. Unfortunately the other bowlers couldn't match his excellent economy rate, and Runriders made an impressive 113-7 from their 14 overs. The Knights' batters did their best to chase down the target but it was a bridge too far and they ended up on 77-8.

A frustrating end to a terrific season. Massive congrats to Ameer and his squad for their wonderful achievements again this Summer.

IN THE WEEKNIGHT LEAGUE THERE HAVE BEEN wins for the Blues and Taverners in the past week, while the Royals played out an epic game against Calgary Chargers which ended in a tie.

An excellent batting display from Royals saw them rack up 173-7. Wasim Naqshbandi and Raman Dhillon did brilliantly to put on 41 for the first wicket in just 5 overs. Their solid base allowed Cam Whalen (31*) and David Hazell (31*) to play their shots and raise the run rate. Some handy runs down the order from Usama Saeed (13 off 10) and Arvind Azariah (19* off 14) helped take the total past 170 and make Royals big favourites. Unfortunately, the Calgary Chargers' batting line up had an equally good day and managed to keep the scoreboard ticking over despite wicket falling. David produced another superb spell with his off spin, taking 2-19 from 4 overs, and the game looked won as Chargers sat on 99-4 from 14 overs. A batting onslaught saw Chargers smash 74 from the last 6 overs of the game to break the hearts of the Royals and see the points shared.

THINGS WERE MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE for the Blues as they destroyed JCC by 8 wickets. Trent Dunlop and Chris Owens combined twice in the first over the game to reduce JCC 1-2. Trent snared his third wicket in his next over and finished with the excellent figures of 4-0-14-3. Ahad Bhaidani impressed with the ball (4-0-14-1), as did Steven Schunker who continued his good form by taking 2-24. Nathan Kerin also picked up 2 wickets to mop up the tail and bowl out JCC for just 81. This was never going to be enough and the Blues knocked off the total in style. Chris Owens has been a consistent force at the top of the order and he once again retired with a run-a-ball 32*. Sriman Narayan (17), Jason Funnell (12*) and a bunch extras saw the target chased down in just 11.3 overs.

IT WAS A SIMILAR STORY for the Taverners last Friday, also winning by 8 wickets chasing down a low score. All the Tavs bowlers did well to bowl out Calgary Chargers for just 92. Terrell Dhanpaul was exemplary with the ball and thoroughly deserved his 2 wickets as a cost of just 12 runs from his 4 overs. Shaun Rheeder was back to his best, also taking 2-12, while Bijju Mohankumar was the most successful of the attack, closing out the innings by snapping up 3-8. Bijju completed an excellent allround display by making a 23* from 16 balls to win the game. Earlier in the innings Kyle Salzmann showed his batting flair in making 020 not out from 17 deliveries.
