February 20th 2016 will go down in the history of Glenmore CC as the date of our first ever Winter Classic. An outdoor cricket event in the heart of Winter! It proved to be a fantastic success, and will no doubt become an annual fixture for the club.
The unusually mild start to 2016 meant there was precious little snow on the ground. Just a few precarious patches of ice here and there, which proved more than enough to send many of the participants sliding to the ground in a heap. Ravi Bachhal was possibly the best of the bunch, completely losing his footing as he suddenly changed his mind on a quick single!
The Winter Classic was wonderfully well attended, with over 25 people taking part in the two innings per side game, and many other coming along to watch the action. We thank everybody who came down to Riley to support the event...we hope you all enjoyed the day.
Special thanks must also be extended to Ryan Jenkinson for organising the event, and to Rebecca Wolstenholme and Heather Smith. B-Rex and Heather did a simply outstanding job running a mini-cafe in the clubhouse, keeping everyone warm with tea, coffee, snacks, etc. We are all very grateful for their efforts.
