Glenmore Cricket Club News story

Golf Day Caps off Good Weekend

12 Aug 2014

Valley Ridge Golf Club again played host to the GCC Golf Day on Sunday. This was the third such event and was easily the most successful. We had 27 participants in the end, and we managed to raise a fantastic $655, which was a great effort. Massive thanks to everyone who took part and supported the event. And special mention to Jonathan Bray for once again organising it all and providing the prizes. Congrats to Ken and Wayne for being on the winning team with an amazing -15 score! BJ, Bec and Ryan picked up the prize for coming in last. The other prizes went to Tony (longest putt), Geordie Dickey (straightest drive) and Mitchell Gardiner (further from the pin).
Saturday saw the T20 team play in their Div 1 semi-final against Stallions. The T20 boys had done fantastically well to finish third in the league, but Stallions proved too strong at Westwinds. Glenmore managed to restrict the Stallions to just 129 from their 20 overs and felt confident of knocking off the runs. But, the Stallions spin attack were too good on the day and Glenmore fell 30 runs short in their chase. But, congratulations to Pasha and his team for such a successful campaign.
Friday night was the much anticipated Taverners vs Royals match at Riley Park. The weather threatened to ruin the evening, but thankfully the showers were brief and the sun came out towards the end, although probably not soon enough to warm up the best scorer in town, Heather Smith! I expect full match reports from both captains so will just give the basic details. Royals made 101 in their 20 overs. Mitchell top scored with a swashbuckling 30 not out. Tavs managed to chase down the runs with two overs to spare. Captain Smith proved to be the hero, riding his luck to make a match winning 24 not out. It was, as predicted, a very fun game and a big thanks to all those who came out to watch the action.
