Glenmore Cricket Club Glenmore Taverners v Rockies on Mon 09 Aug 2021 at 6pm
Glenmore Cricket Club Won by 41 runs

Match report On Monday night, Tavs played Rockies and after winning the toss captain Terry elected to bat first. A stellar performance from Chilly saw him retire on 31* from just 19 balls, with an England-esque middle order collapse seeing only 3 others making it to double figures. They found themselves in the 16th over with just one wicket remaining and a meagre 102 runs on the board…. Up step Mr Miyagi and Richie Harvey. With Miyagi holding the strike for the next 12 balls and putting on 5 runs, taking us into the 18th on 107/9 the tail end were doing well to defend their wicket but the runs were slow-coming when suddenly an explosion of immense running and a WILD SIX from Miyagi that went soaring across the sky, probably showing up on the airport’s radar just up the road from Westwinds cricket ground and sent the aircraft controllers into a panicked frenzy, things in the penultimate over livened up! So it was, in the final over and the two tail enders remaining, time for some rapid fire singles, quick turns and creating doubles from what would have, at any normal time, been a lucky to stay alive single. But these were not normal times, after all - Miyagi had just hit a six. With 8 runs coming from the last over, Richie and Miyagi had given the Tavs a score to defend, Richie being not out with 8 runs from just 5 balls and our resident teacher and guru, Miyagi, who will surely wax lyrical for a long time to come completing his innings on 24 not out. The total was set and Tavs finished up on a total of 127/9.

As Glenmore’s Taverners took to the field, Rockies were feeling up for the challenge. The valiant and exhausted tail end duo, now opening the bowling, did well to pin the opposition down in the early overs keeping the run rate well under wraps until enough was enough for Rockies’ opener, Ed, who unfurled a barrage of big shots to retire on 34. Seven overs in and Rockies were cruising at 7 an over with only one wicket down. Up step Big Cat and Chilly to reign it in, slowing the run rate back up and then with desperation setting in and needing some runs, Chilly tore through the middle order picking up 3 wickets in the 13th over to retire for a second time in the match having collected his maximum 4 wickets from 3 overs being unable to bowl his last. Big Cat still going strong, now accompanied by Bruno as a bowling partner with Rich Harvey limiting runs with his final over, Rockies were dismissed, all out for 86 runs as Bruno sent the last batsman’s off stump cartwheeling across the ground. Tavs victorious once again by a margin of 41 runs.

From this magnificent evening there were a lot of great, stand out performances. With the bat, Chilly retiring on 31*, Rich Harvey assisting the tail with 8* and Miyagi ending on 24*, including ‘that’ six! With the ball, Big Cat pinning them down by going for just 3.25 from his 4 overs, Bijju with 2 wickets for just 5 runs from less than 2over and well, the man of the moment, Chilly who picked up his 4-for-16.

The Born Colorado man of the match inevitably went to Matt ‘Chilly’ Chilvers as a double retiree, a feat last accomplished by the mythical Jon Smith in his final game at the very same ground, 4 seasons ago. Very well played Chilly.
