Crown Huskies v Glenmore Cricket Club Glenmore Braves on Sat 23 May 2015 at 12pm
Glenmore Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report On Saturday Glenmore's 1st XI got back to winning ways with a comfortable win over Crown Huskies. The boys in blue cantered to victory by 8 wickets with 10 overs still remaining.
Chasing down 229 is never easy, but Glenmore made light work of it thanks to another fantastic innings from Mark Turner. 'Turns' never looked in any trouble (other than when served up with a slow, wide delivery from the leg spinner) as he progressed effortlessly to his second hundred of the season. Every other batsman at the club could do worse than coming along to see how he goes about his business. Each ball is played on it's merit. Good balls are defended, wide ones are left, but anything slightly loose is put away. During his knock of 111 he walloped eleven 4s, and hit four beautiful 6s, two of which were dispatched back over the bowler's head. Neither seamers nor spinners could contain him, and so it didn't take too long before the Crown Huskies heads collectively dropped. The first ten overs saw the run rate progress at roughly 4 per over, but once the opening bowlers were removed Turner opened up his shoulders and started peppering the boundary.
Turns and Alex Storey registered their third hundred partnership of the season to give Glenmore the perfect start. Together they ended up putting on 181 for the first wicket, but while Mark was making it look easy, Storey was anything but fluent. The skipper edged, spooned, mistimed his way to 43 before eventually going lbw to the spin of Ahsan.
It was something of a surprise when Mark edged behind, but his departure didn't slow the run rate as Jaideep Singh (making his season debut) soon got his eye in. Jai was busy at the crease, always looking to score, and twice sent the ball soaring over the rope. His excellent cameo of 44 not out took Glenmore to their target with 60 balls remaining.
While things went perfectly smoothly for Glenmore with the bat, they had been made to work much harder earlier in the day with the ball. Once again the Glenmore attack performed well, but the Crown batsmen were determined throughout their 50 overs.
Glenmore got off to a fantastic start when Suki Ghotra continued his fine form this year and removed the left handed Sumair Patel for a duck. The ball was angled across him, found the edge and gave Storey the first of his four catches behind the stumps. Patel's fellow opener James had looked in good touch, but he too fell to Suki's cunning, playing all round a beauty that took out middle stump.
Syed and Mughal (numbers 3 and 4) set about building the innings and did well to keep the Glenmore bowlers at bay. Together they put on 96, laying the bedrock of the Huskies innings. Ryan Jenkinson, Ali Memon and Waseem Altaf (playing first game in 2015) all bowled well, and gave 100% but were unable to make the breakthrough.
With Glenmore desperate for a wicket the ball was tossed to Mark Turner for the first time. The big man summoned his inner-Richard Hadlee to take four fantastic wickets! After a couple of looseners he found his range, nicking Syed off for 42. His second wicket came in unlikely fashion. Adam Knox had spent his Friday night sampling more Jägermeister than is advisable, and was feeling decidedly unwell when the ball was smacked to him at mid-on. Nobody who had witnessed his pale complexion had any money on him holding the catch, but someone Knoxy managed it! (He later spent Glenmore's run chase snoozing in the shade).
While Turner was the pick of the Glenmore bowlers, the champagne moment came courtesy of debutant Daniel Brennan. Our newest Aussie at the club had shown off his fielding abilities at Wednesday's inter-club game, and he produced a remarkable piece of cricket to remove Hamza Butt. Fielding at long on, Dan raced to his left, swooped low to pick the ball up in one hand, and in his next step unfurled a flat throw that took out off stump to leave the batsman well short.
Glenmore tired a little in the final ten overs, and some of their cricket became ragged, but on the whole it was another excellent effort in the field.
Congrats to Mark on his sensational century and his four wicket haul. And a big thanks to Daniel, Waseem and Jaideep for answering the call to play late on Thursday night.
Another 6 points to Glenmore, who continue to defy expectation. Tomorrow, another contest against a Crown team...
