Glenmore Cricket Club - Player Profile - Iain Chapman

Player Profile - Iain Chapman

FULL NAME - Iain Chapman

NICKNAME(S) - Chappie, Chappers

AGE - Luckily I’ll never be as old as Ken Beaumont!

CLUBS PLAYED FOR - Horley CC, Winton CC, Cove CC

GLENMORE CC DEBUT - 2013 I believe although my first league game was in 2014.

BATTING STYLE - Very very slow – think Geoff Boycott on a slow day, although without the sloping gob and the terrible Yorkshire accent of his…. Or the talent.

BOWLING STYLE - Right arm pie, I have been accused of being deceptively slow.

PREFERRED FIELDING POSITION - Mid-off… according to the chart it is the position for the second worst fielder on the team, so we are probably pretty close on that.

CAREER BEST SCORE / GLENMORE BEST SCORE - 30 not out at Martindale

CAREER BEST BOWLING FIGURES / GLENMORE BEST BOWLING FIGURES - Not sure I’ve actually bowled in a league match yet, but I did get 4 ropey wickets in an indoor game. Personally I blame the captain for not bowling me more!

BEST CRICKETING MOMENT(S) - Personally, facing Alex Tudor (former Surrey and England bowler), winning the Horley CC Six-a-side as skipper, taking 7-22 when I used to bowl with a bit of pace back in the dark ages. From a general cricket side, any Ashes win; growing up it seemed we would never get the urn back so to be competitive now is refreshing!

BEST MOMENT(S) FOR GLENMORE CC - The fines committee of the Tavs… and any win!

BEST PLAYER YOU'VE PLAYED WITH - Well, Dan Brennan last year was pretty special and Shea is still recovering from running between the wickets with him.

WHAT'S A WORSE FEELING, DROPPING A CATCH OR GETTING A DUCK? - Are we talking cricket ducks or are we talking mallards? Getting a duck with a 12 gauge is a good thing J So…definitely dropping a catch. Sometimes you just get a good ball first up, but with a dropped catch (if it is a sitter) you feel like you’ve let the team down and it’s difficult to push it out of your mind.

FAVOURITE GROUND(S) - The Oval, Riley for the surroundings, and really any ground in the UK with a decent bar.

LEAST FAVOURITE GROUND(S) - Riley for the outfield, Forest Lawn… just because, and Weaste (in Salford) back in the UK as the pavilion was vandal proof and they had put that to the test believe me. Weaste and Forest Lawn have a lot in common.

BEST THING ABOUT GLENMORE CC - The people… the club has a great bunch of folks involved at all levels. I love the fact that the club is driving youth cricket in Calgary too.

ONE THING YOU WOULD CHANGE ABOUT CALGARY CRICKET - The pitches! I am pretty gutted we lost Martindale as that was the best cricketing ground in Calgary. It would be nice to expand outside the comfort zone of the North East and into the south.

IDEAS TO HELP THE CLUB - Six-a-side all day tournament, would be a great day out and could be a good advert for cricket in Calgary.

ALL TIME FAVOURITE CRICKETER - After Neil Widgust it has to be Ian Botham.

OTHER SPORTING HEROES - David Young (former Salford RLFC captain), John Wark (ITFC), Phil Taylor

GOALS FOR THE 2016 SEASON - To win the Weeknight league – go big or go home!

BIGGEST INFLUENCE IN CRICKET - Alcohol. ‘Nuff said.

FAVOURITE FOOD - Curry (achari gosht), very very hot wings, deer sausage and moose steaks.

FAVOURITE DRINK - Beer and smooth single malt scotch.

FAVOURITE MUSIC - Anything country; Toby Keith, Eric Church, Chris Stapleton, yup I am definitely at home here!

FAVOURITE FILM - Predator, absolute classic!

ANYTHING ELSE TO ADD - It’s great to be part of the best cricket club in Calgary. Jody, Matt, Jenko, et al are doing a great job with the juniors and that will only help the club and cricket in Calgary moving forwards.
