BJ Wolstenholme

Player Profile - BJ Wolstenholme

Full Name:

Frederick Wolstenholme

Nickname(s):

BJ, Badger, Wolvie

Age:

“I was so much older then, I’m younger than that now.” My mom thinks I’m 35, I’m 34.

Clubs Played For:

Glenmore CC

Glenmore CC Debut:

2007

Batting Style:

Left hander’s Union; Captain of the ‘Cross-batters when it suits me’ section. Style myself after Cook and the tortoise….slow and steady.

Bowling Style:

The googly is coming into form after practicing for 5 years

Preferred Fielding Position:

When the shoulder was good, on the boundary; now, point, wickie, or slips

Career Best Score / Glenmore Best Score:

35 not out for Tavs

Career Best Bowling Figures / Glenmore Best Bowling Figures:

Oh probably, 1 for 36 off 1

Best Cricketing Moment:

BC Tour, the snow filled Kelowna tour drive; watching the Ashes in Brisbane and missing the only wicket of the day while looking at some women

Best Moment for Glenmore:

Beating Tony’s Royals; the mythical chase of 214 at Inland Large that Smudgington doesn’t remember. Drawing 15 wides in an over on a windy day at Inland

Favourite Ground(s):

The Gabba; Riley Large ignoring the grass length; Beacon Hill;

Least Favourite Ground(s):

Inland Small with its post; Cowichan with its dirt

Best Thing About Glenmore CC:

Besides me? The camaraderie. The social aspect of it is great.

One Thing You Would Change About Calgary Cricket:

Well,…. I’m sure there’s no corruption going on or bending of the rules anywhere so I would have to say, the incessant appealing for absolutely nothing on every. Single. Ball.; the length of the grass at Riley; the relationship with the city; the fact that the league meetings never start on time, never finish on time, and never deal with what the meetings are supposed to be about. Tangents and non-sequitur monologues at those meetings. The fact that there are only 5 fields for what feels like a bazillion players. The disrespect for umpires. Oh, sorry. One thing? How about players playing in jeans in the weekday league.

Ideas To Help The Club:

Although Robbo’s idea is great, I’m thinking we need a Miss Havisham or an Abel Magwitch. A Pavillion that we control would be fantastic. But the easiest would be to have more people from the club volunteer to help out the club whether it’s with fund raising ideas, fund raising, umpiring, volunteering, etc. It seems like it’s getting blood from the same stones after a while.

All Time Favourite Cricketer:

Got into the game a bit late but Michael Hussey and Adam Gilchrist. Cook for his 2010 Ashes batting. Viv Richards after watching Fire in Babylon. Maybe Vettori. I try to emulate Alex Robertson in bowling and Tony Pasternak in running between the wickets.

Other Sporting Heroes:

Did Robbo put Ledley King down?! If you wanted someone without any knees you should have picked the catcher from Major League.

Hakan Loob; Zinedine Zidane; Dennis ‘watch out Argentina’ Bergkamp; Thomas Voekler; Peter Forsberg; Hasek pre-1998; any knuckleball pitcher; Clarence Seedorf for longevitiy; Xabi Alonso; Steven “you gotta be in it to win it” Bradbury; Dirk Kuijt; Nigel De Jong’s drop kicks; Klaas Jan Huntelaar

Goals For 2015 Season:

Maybe hit a 6

Biggest Influence In Cricket:

Storey (editor’s note: I put this here). Um? Cricinfo?

Favourite Food:

Vanilla Ice Cream; Strawberry Pie; learning to love meat pies; Rocket; a good Beef Dip; Gruyere and Gouda cheese

Favourite Drink:

Beer; iced tea-sweetened, of course

Favourite Music:

Bob Dylan! Otis Redding. Mumford and Sons

Favourite Film:

Fantastic Mr. Fox; Field of Dreams; Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou; Shawshank.

Anything Else To Add:

If you have any international trade negotiations you need handling, Robbo’s your man. Also, I’m certain that Storey has either a) edited this or b) told me to change some things. I’ll let you know.-
Editors note: I have changed or requested the change of nothing!
