PLAYER PROFILE - Alex Storey

 FULL NAME – Alexander Storey

NICKNAME(S) – Stick / Two Dart / Big Gay Al

 AGE – 34 years young

 CLUBS PLAYED FOR – Hutton CC (1989-2001) / Twickenham CC (2003-2008) /
 Glenmore CC (from 2009)

GLENMORE CC DEBUT – May 16th 2009 vs Cavs III, a week after arriving in
 Calgary!

 BATTING STYLE
– Orthodox right hander

BOWLING STYLE – Slow medium / off spin / leg spin…all of an equally poor
 standard.

 PREFERRED FIELDING POSITION
– Used to be cover point, back in my more
youthful days. I now fid myself keeping wicket for a second season and  loving it!

CAREER BEST SCORE / GLENMORE BEST SCORE – 129 not out vs Kanata Panthers in 2012. Batted well, did not  keep well that day though!

CAREER BEST BOWLING FIGURES – 12-2-35-7 for Hutton 3rds, 1994

 GLENMORE BEST BOWLING FIGURES
– 1 for 6 vs Noor, 2010

 BEST CRICKETING MOMENT
– Hitting the winning runs for Twickenham vs Ickenham in a thrilling, nail biting cup semi final back in 2004. We snatched victory from the jaws of defeat and the celebration afterwards was the best, longest, most drunken I’ve experienced!

 BEST MOMENT FOR GLENMORE CC
– All our wins are fantastic. Loved our victories at Riley Park in 2012...low scoring thrillers which we won thanks to our team spirit. Defending 60-odd against St Johns was something special. My favourite non-playing moment was watching Taverners play in 2012 when Andrew Ferns and Neil Honess both retired having made career best scores.

 FAVOURITE GROUND
– Well, I’ll always love my old home grounds at Hutton and Twickenham. Proper English
grounds with sensational wickets. Inland Large provides the best playing area in Calgary while Riley Park is the more comfortable and enjoyable to play at. Pity the playing area and pavilion at Riley aren’t better. Here’s hoping for an improvement in future. Best ground to watch cricket at…has to be Lords. Always a joy.

 LEAST FAVOURITE GROUND
– Sadly it has to be the ground we play on most often, Inland Small

 BEST THING ABOUT GLENMORE CC
– A great bunch of boys in the club, who play in the right spirit.

ONE THING YOU WOULD CHANGE ABOUT CALGARY CRICKET – Difficult to pick out only one thing. There is so much which needs changing; facilities, organisation, attitudes, infrastructure. But, I think I’d start with the easiest thing, which would probably most please the cricketers in Calgary, which is to get the facilities up to scratch. The wickets need to be better, and certainly not dangerous, which they are in some cases. Outfields need to be cut shorter so batsmen get better value for their shots and aren’t encouraged to slog over the top. And the solitary cricket net and pavilion at Riley Park need to be repaired, renovated and maintained. Their disrepair is a disgrace!

 ALL TIME FAVOURITE CRICKETER
– Was going to choose Steve Waugh for his tough, never-say-die attitude. But, I think I have to go with Shane Warne. A genuine sporting genius. The game was never dull when Warney was bowling.

 OTHER SPORTING HEROES
– Tony Adams, Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Ian Wright, Michael Johnson, Roger Federer, Tiger Woods

 GOALS FOR THE 2013 SEASON
– Hold my catches, make some runs, help get the 1st XI promoted and watch as much of the 2nds and Tavs as possible.

 BIGGEST INFLUENCE IN CRICKET
– My dear old Dad. Coach, cheerleader, support and first person I’d go to for a cricket chat.

 FAVOURITE FOOD
– Oh man, I do love a Ruby Murray. And I adore a decent plate of fish and chips. But, if I could eat anything at all it would have to be my mum’s roast dinner!

 FAVOURITE DRINK
– Hmmm, I do like a Lucozade Sport. I love a Guinness or a whisky. But, I think I’d always
choose a decent pint of real ale…London Pride or ESB or something like that.

 FAVOURITE MUSIC
– Bob Dylan, without question. ‘Blood On The Tracks’ is the greatest album ever!

 FAVOURITE FILM
– ‘Taxi Driver’ has always been my favourite. Other notables include ‘Annie
Hall’, ‘Manhattan’, ‘Glengarry Glen Ross’, ‘Raging Bull’, and ‘The Thin Red Line’

 ANYTHING ELSE TO ADD
– Everyone connected with Glenmore CC should do all they can to improve, develop and nurture the club.
