Centuries from Jai and Amar Lead The Way As 1st XI Wins Season Opener!

02 May 2018

So it was a beautiful sunny day for Glenmore 1st XI's opening game of the 2018 season. Everyone was keen to start the season after a long break, and this time around Winter was really long as well! Thanks to Alex Storey for organizing a professional photo shoot for the Glenmore boys. New member Chris Austin was in attendance to take some great photos of the team in our new uniforms, sponsored by Keepsake Homes. Thanks for coming along Chris. You can see his pictures in the Photo Gallery.

The game was supposed to start at noon but the United umpires were nowhere to be seen. There were a few calls made and finally the umpires showed up around quarter after 12.

Anjan, captain of the team, continued his winning streak with the toss and elected to bat first . Abhijeet Bahl and Jaideep Singh opened for Glenmore but Abhi was soon gone, falling to an incredible catch by Ragil off his own bowling. That started one of the great partnerships that Glenmore CC has ever seen between Jai and Amar Singh. Jai looked a bit nervous initially and gave few chances to Knight Riders, but those catches were dropped and he certainly made them pay. After he settled his nerves it was brilliant stroke play from there on. Amar on the other hand continued his form from last year's final and has now scored 2 consecutive hundreds without getting out. Jai ended up making 144 and Amar retired himself at 120.

Then came the late onslaught as Ikbal Sandhu smashed a typically quickfire 56 from 36 balls. Glenmore ended up posting a massive total of 368 in 50 overs.

Sukhi Ghotra, as always, was consistent in his line and length. His outswingers were too good for Knight Rider openers. He took 3-34. Special mention to Sudanshu Chopra for his excellent wicket-keeping, which included a brilliant run out.

In the end Glenmore won by 115 runs thanks to a consistent performance from all the bowlers. Great win boys!

Special mention for Ankush Jain who made his debut for Glenmore CC and was handy in both batting and bowling.
